Jammin' at the Zoo, Friends!
Jam Amidst the Animals! Live Concerts at the Lincoln Park Zoo!
The Lincoln Park Zoo presents one concert per month each June, July and August for its "Jammin' with the Zoo" summer concert series. The popular event features notable national acts, and the special setting on the zoo's lovely South Lawn offers up an unparalleled and truly festive atmosphere that will create memories of a lifetime.
This year's line-up? Check it out:
- Neon Trees will perform June 22, bringing their Alt Rock vibe from Provo, Utah to entertain the crowds. Is it a coincidence that their first breakout hit single was "Animal?" We think not. Band name, you ask? It was inspired by the lighted trees on the "In-N-Out Burger" signs...aren't you glad you asked?
- Eric Hutchinson with Better Than Ezra will appear July 27, and few bands are as lively and raveworthy in concert as these folks, take our word for it, or listen to the fans of the group who refer to themselves as Ezralites. Band name for this Alt Rock group? One theory is that it comes from a line in Ernest Hemingway's novel "A Moveable Feast" where in describing a particularly annoying sound, Hemingway remarks that it "was no worse than other noises, certainly better than Ezra learning to play the bassoon".
- AllStar Weekend with Hot Chelle Rae is up on the zoo's main lawn on August 24. AllStar Weekend's pop stylings and Hot Chelle Rae's pop stylings meshed together? Sure to be explosive. Wondering about Hot Chelle Rae's band name? The band is named after a MySpace stalker, naturally.
"Jammin' at the Zoo" is designed as a family event, with adult tickets going for $23 and kids under 12 just $12. Tickets go on sale starting June 1, gates open at 6pm, opening acts start their performances at 7pm, and shows end at 10:30pm. And for all you Zoo goers out there, please note that the Zoo closes ALL of its grounds to everyone at 5pm for set-up on concert days.
