Clark Street is Ever Artier!
Clark Street just keeps on getting prettier, don't you think? Frost anointing trees, pedestrians stepping out in natty winter fashions, and holiday displays beginning to fill up shops' sparkling windows. And then there's the gorgeous art on display at several stellar sites to delight passers-by!
We're so pleased to announce the continuation -- expansion, even! -- of the pop-up art gallery program, simply but evocatively named Art on Clark.
You'll find the achingly beautiful and stunningly evocative work of renowned local artist Nancie King Mertz at 2532 N. Clark, where you'll feel like you've been transported to the neighborhoods s
he depicts in her richly detailed portraits. She specializes in Impressionist oil paintings, pastels, and watercolors, and her work is astonishing. She's held over thirty one-woman shows in Chicago, showcasing her art, and depicting scenes from dazzling countries all around the world.
When your eyes have filled with the treasures of Ms. Mertz, be sure to strid
e down to 2320 N. Clark to view the artistic explorations of Kathryn Trumbull Fimreite, whose art-making centers on themes of relationships and interactions. Her enchanting pieces span from traditional landscapes to montage cityscapes, using mixed media and figurative explorations.
But wait! There's more! Turn around and march right on over to 2324 N. Clark to ponder the beauty in the simplest things around us, reinterpreted by artist Rob Waters. He enjoys the world in even its most basic elements, and demonstrates this through art using pencil, ink, watercolor, and oil.
We're opening up more pop-up art galleries all month, so please keep your eyes open as you stroll down Clark Street so you don't miss a single delightful gallery!
Art on Clark is an initiative designed to showcase and support local artists and artisans, beautify the neighborhood, and promote available storefront properties. In other words, it's a win-win-win for all those involved.
You can get involved, too! If you are an artist or an artisan who is interested in displaying your work, you can download an Art on Clark application form as well as a brief program description. If you're a property owner interested in installing a pop-up gallery in your available storefront, please contact Loren@VisitClarkStreet.com or at (773) 880-5200. And if you're a resident or visitor to the area, please stroll by the pop-up galleries on Clark Street and marvel and the talents and artistic abilities of our fellow Chicagoans!
