About the artist: Mike Helbing
One of the themes underlying Mike Helbing’s work is a personal understanding of the human place in the natural order of things. After a life-changing tour of duty with the United States Army in Vietnam, Mike’s life became a search for personal truth and insight. Mike returned to the US and spent the better part of the next three years studying art at Ball State University in Muncie, IN, and went on to graduate from Northern Illinois University with an MFA in Sculpture. In 1992, the year Mike’s career really took off, he received a Fellowship from the State of Illinois Art Council and ever since, Mike has installed his own public sculptures in Hutchinson, KS, Indianapolis, IN, and Quebec, Canada. Mike has served on granting boards and on advisory groups and has been involved with the National Vietnam Veterans Art Museum as a member artist, chairman of the board, and curator. He is currently a sculptor living in Berwyn, IL with his wife and two children. We're delighted for Mike's Pan Tree to be making its Clark Street debut at the corner of Wrightwood and Clark Street!
